Appaloosa isn't just a coat pattern - it was a horse breed developed by the Nez Perce of the American Northwest. After the Nez Perce War in the late 1800s, most of their horses were confiscated or destroyed by the US Government, but a few dedicated breeders remained to keep the breed alive. I've been kinda leery to make appys, just because of all the freaking texturing and anchoring of spots, but I FINALLY downloaded Brynn's texturing program and my hand is saved from carpal tunnel for another day!
