Chincoteague ponies aren't really from Chincoteague - they're from the neighboring island of Assateague, where herds of them have roamed free since the late 1600s. These horses were made famous in the Marguerite Henry books, "Misty of Chincoteague," "Sea Star, Orphan of Chincoteague," and "Stormy, Misty's Foal" all about one filly, Misty, and her rise to stardom. Misty is just about the most famous pony in the world, and though she died well over 60 years ago, her descendents, through her only surviving foal Stormy, are alive to this day and still producing the Misty line. I've been lucky enough to be given hexies of these two wonderful girls and definitely act like I'm 8 again when I play with them, haha.
